About

Two people, and what each is accountable for

Bilnax measures expected credit loss and prepares financial statements, and it refuses to produce a figure it cannot show you the derivation of. That standard applies to the people who build it as much as to the arithmetic.

Co-founder — financial reporting and audit

Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), EY alumnus, financial reporting and audit across IFRS, Lux GAAP and US GAAP. Based in Luxembourg.

Sharif is a Chartered Certified Accountant and a member of the ACCA, based in Luxembourg, with more than six years of international financial reporting and audit experience across four firms.

He began at EY in Lahore and later in Luxembourg, leading statutory audit assignments from planning through to completion, assessing the application of IFRS 9, 15 and 16 to client financial statements, and reporting to engagement managers and partners. He has since prepared financial statements and NAV packs at Revantage, a Blackstone portfolio company, reviewed daily NAV packs and trial balances across IFRS, US GAAP and Lux GAAP books at JPMorgan Chase, and worked statutory audits at Forvis Mazars.

He now leads accounting engagements independently: preparing financial statements for statutory submission, running month-end and quarter-end closes, building valuation and feasibility models, and supporting tax submissions.

That is the same discipline this product is built on. An allowance, a set of accounts or a NAV is only worth as much as the evidence behind it, which is why Bilnax refuses to produce a figure it cannot show you the derivation of.

Why it is built this way

One of us has signed off accounts. The other builds the thing that produces them.

Most tools in this category are built by engineers who have read the standard. The difference here is a chartered accountant who has spent six years applying it — leading statutory audits at EY, preparing financial statements and NAV packs at a Blackstone portfolio company, reviewing books across three reporting frameworks at JPMorgan Chase — deciding what the tool must refuse to do. Most of the refusals in this product exist because somebody has been on the wrong end of the question an auditor asks next.
